Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to take both days of training?

Unless you have verifiable certificates that you have taken either NRA Basic Pistol, NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home, NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home or a combination of Chicago Firearms Permit AND Utah Concealed Carry Permit or any two of the Previous Credit classes that equal 8 hours-you must take both DAY 1 and DAY 2.

I’m a veteran don’t I get exempt from 8 hours of training?

The state says that as a instructor I can credit you with DAY 1 however considering the information that I cover I wouldn’t feel comfortable sending you out with a concealed firearm not having that first day of training. So the
veteran’s exemption would have to be discussed on a individual basis. Veterans with MP, special ops or additional civilian firearms training would
be the exception.

Does it matter when I take DAY 1 and DAY 2?

No, but you need to take them in order. You should try to do them in one weekend if possible. You can take DAY 1 in November and DAY 2 in January, you’re good to go.

Do I need a FOID card to take you class?

NO. You will need a FOID card to get the Concealed Carry License. The state is working on a combination FOID/Concealed Carry application but I would apply for the FOID now.

Do you work for Glock?

No.

Do you guarantee that I’ll get the license after taking your class?
No, you submit to a background check and mental health check when you apply-I don’t know you that well.

When can I apply for the license after taking your class?
Immediately after completing Day 2

I have a really cool gun I want to bring to the class is that ok?

For uniformity sake I’ll provide all the same guns and ammunition for this class. I will be offering a Advance Handgun Class where you must provide your own gun, ammo, holster etc. and you can see how well you do under tactical situations with your own gun.

Why didn’t you go and work for the President?

Next question.

I took the 40 hour Armed Security guard class before shouldn’t that exempt me from the training requirement?

According the the State Police you must currently hold a Firearm Control Card (Tan Card) which means you must be working for a security firm in order to be exempt from the training requirement. Makes no sense to me either.

What if I lay up or get rehired when I’m scheduled for your class?
Not a problem. Call, email or text me and we’ll reschedule you or send you a refund whatever works for you.

What’s for lunch?
Typical firehouse fare.

Why is you class considered a value?

We shoot both days, most other classes don’t. My class is priced slightly lower than most AND there is no extra charge for the range (many charge extra) AND my class includes ammunition (nobody does that) a $45 value (and my guns) AND my class includes lunch and continental breakfast.

Is you class suitable for beginner shooters I want to bring my wife but she’s terrified of guns?

Yes my class has something for the first time shoot thru former law enforcement guys. I start with the assumption that you know absolutely nothing about guns and yet offer (especially in this class) something for even the very experienced shooter. I’ve taken specialty courses in teaching women to shoot. They typically turn out to be some of my best students. (they admit they know nothing about shooting so they are a open book….guys…well we know everything….)

How tall are you?
6 feet.
